Introduction to C-Store-Operations
  • Walk the site with the new hire. Explain each area we have and the purpose of that area.
  • Introduce the new employee to any employees working on the shift.

Explain the following to the new hire:

  • A c-store, or convenience store, is a type of retail store that specializes in providing a wide variety of everyday items and products to customers. It is called a “convenience store” because it is designed to offer convenience to shoppers.
  • Convenience stores stock a diverse range of products that cater to customers’ immediate needs. This can include snacks, beverages, cigarettes, basic groceries, toiletries, personal care items, and even some non-food items like phone chargers or basic automotive supplies.
  • C-stores are designed for quick and easy shopping. Customers can pop in, grab what they need, and check out without the need for a lengthy shopping trip. This convenience is especially important for busy people or those in a hurry.
  • Employees at c-stores should provide excellent customer service. It’s important to greet customers, help them find items, keep the store clean and organized, and operate the cash register accurately and efficiently.
  • Products are typically organized for easy access. Snacks and beverages are often near the front of the store, and there is often a dedicated section for tobacco and alcohol, and lottery/lotto. Perishable items like sandwiches or dairy products may be found in refrigerated cases.
  • Please keep in mind that tobacco and alcohol products can only be sold to customers aged 21 and up and lottery lotto products can only be sold to customers aged 18 and up. Checking ID for these sales is required. Failure to follow this policy can result in termination and legal consequences.
  • Ultimately, the goal of a convenience store is to provide customers with quick and easy access to a variety of everyday items, making their lives more convenient. New employees should understand the store’s products, layout, and customer service expectations to provide a positive shopping experience for customers.
